Initial Personal Development Plan Essay Example for Free
Initial Personal Development Plan EssayStudy skills.During my GCSEs I wasnt sure what I wanted out of life. I chose to study French, Graphics and History. I enjoyed French the most and did quite well in it, heretofore if I had concentrated more I couldve done a lot better. I was also operative in my dads caf. I enjoyed working at the caf a lot. It was hard at times to manage my time between School, working at the caf, going to footb all(prenominal) practice and also make time to do homework and revision. In class I enjoyed myself a lot and got my work done fast so went on to do extra question or bonus questions. When I was in the classroom environment I felt more confidant in my work as I had the teacher to multiply check if I had any doubts but because I didnt go over my work at home I feel it put me genuinely behind .However having to juggle school, work, football and revision was actually stressful and I didnt do well as well I would have desire which put precept in a negative light for me.I did consider at one point to stop my education after passing school while I was at school because I didnt believe I would be sufficient to handle the pressure, however I knew that education is a genuinely big get off the ground of my life and my familys life as everyone has been to university in my family so I felt I had to go to college and however my education. Through this time my teachers were very helpful, I found it hard to ask for at foremost but when I did seek advice it was definitely the right choice. It do it clearer what I wanted in the long term and helped boost my confidence a oddball in my work. After school had finished, in the summer I worked full time in my dads caf and learned a lot of new skills. I worked at the front of the shop. This made me in charge of taking orders, making sure the customers were happy, making sure the chef understood what the customer wanted, deal with complaints and come up with a fair solution.I got to expe rience what its like to rank a business first hand, I got experience in taking stock, ordering stock, deliveries, cash handling, making targets, pushing sales, customer service and sorting the rotas out. This was my first time having a proper full time job, it was hard at times as at the beginning it a new environment and I wasnt used to it, however I soon realised that one of my strengths is that I privy adapt to new environments rather fast which has helped me in some other jobs. While at college I studied Psychology, Sociology and English language/literature. I preferred psychology to my other subjects as I find behaviour very interesting and the cause behind it. Studying at college was a completely new environment, I didnt have the same pressure as I did at school from my teachers, but however I had more pressure on me to get my work done on my done. I got a part time job as sales assistant in a mens shirt shop. The job was a one person shift job, so it was all up to me to mak e sales, attending to all the customers, making sure the shop was in a selling state. I soon moved from being secure a sales assistant to supervisor which gave me more responsibility, I opened and closed the shop, cash handling, did the banking, ordering stock, sorting the delivery and sorting the rota. Again working and studying was quite stressful, but as I was enjoying my courses at college I did not find it as stressful as I did at school. I had more freedom and also more time so I was able to manage my time a lot better without the pressure. When it comes to my strengths and weaknesses, I sometimes feel my strengths can by my weaknesses. I have a strong sense of empathy which makes it a lot easier for me to get along for with different people and be able to communicate with them on their level. Also being able to speak more than one language has helped too, I speak English, Kurdish, Arabic and a bit of Swedish.Having a strong sense of empathy can be a weakness as I can be too pleasant towards people and can be a push over, but I can stand my ground if need be. I am very strong about my morality and I know where to draw a line between whats right and wrong. I believe one of my biggest strengths is my will power. Im very goaded when it comes to my work, when Im in a selling environment Im very comfortable. Sometimes I am too driven and I can ignore things on the side. Being a very goal oriented person I sometimes forget to enjoy myself and make it too much time achieving my goals. Coming for the middle east a region that is very rich in oil and gas, I am invigorate to work in the field. Not very many people from my part of the world work in managing our local resources, I wish to be able to work managing oil and gas and ensure all members of society benefit from the riches of the industry. One of my lifes dreams is to open an orphanage and educate the little fortunate. I firmly believe that an education is the only way to eradicate the social ills affec ting my region. I am a firm believer in the fact that education is the cure for all evils. I hope by educating myself as a women from a region where education is not very ordinary I hope to able to stand on my own two feet so as to be able to help others better themselves.

Importance of Planning in Childcare Environment
Importance of Planning in Childcargon EnvironmentVanessa ClargonEvery squirt is born curious they have their own characteristics, personalities and interest. They developes at different rates, but do follow a similar emergence pattern, i.e. one kidskin may begin to bye 9 months whereas an early(a) child may not begin to walk until they are 17-18 months. There may be many factors that also come into the compare when a child is developing, i.e. If a child is born premature or at term, if the child has any special educational urgencys or other disabilities which a child needs extra support for, weather there has been any long or short term illness, and the surround that the child is in, this includes the Childs societal purlieu, also stress.A Childs growth and maturement is influenced by their learning and their influenced by the people and the environment around them. The EYFS muniment Development matters show the four themes that the Eyfs brook all guidance, these are- A eccentric child + positive relationships + enabling environments = learning and developments. When homework for a child it is best to get as practically information on the child as possible, ask farms for information, as they are putting their most treasured procession in the natural rubberty of your care. Observe the childs drop start play to find out their likes, dislikes, strengths weaknesses, where you foundation support the child in their learning and environment. Anylise your finding using the four themes, principles and exercising from the Development matters document. This helps to find out where a child is on their learning path, consider ways to strengthen their current learning development, showing guidance from positive relationships and enabling environments so that you can plan for the Childs learning and developments to fit their needs. As a practioner you get out get to go to sleep each of your key children and will find other ways to regulate with the chil d alongside their homework. By following the planning, observations, assessment triangles you gain understanding of the Childs actual st historic period of development, their interest and their particular needs , it will stop the you from planning activates and resources that may be too hard or easy for the child, or that the child does not find interesting. Activities that are too hard can negatively affect their confidence and self esteem, as they will not feel able to do it. Activities that are too easy will not hold out their attention and they will lose interest quickly.By doing the observation, analysing and planning triangle it helps constantly review the Childs progress and share with the parents as required by the EYSF at two points, the prime areas between 24 and 36 months of age and at the end of the EYFS in the EYFS profiles. The EYFS breaks down the areas of learning into prime areas and specific areas,Prime areas are fundamental, work together, and move through to sup port development in all other areasPersonal, social and wound up developmentCommunication and languagePhysical developmentSpecific areas include essential skills and knowledge for children to come in successfully in societyLiteracyMathematicsUnderstanding the worldExpressive arts and designWhen planning activities you need to trace sure that you are meeting all the childrens individual needs and requirements so the children are all treated equally. Putting into practice the equal opportunities which are essential.Equality, the practice of treating every on equallyDiversity the practice of recognising and valuing individual characteristics and differencesInclusion an approach that makes sure that all children can participate to a full extent within their environment.A worldwide document that governs equal opportunities for all children is The National Convention on the Right of the Child this document outlines all basic human rights that all children are entitled to. All early yea rs cathode-ray oscilloscope practitoners must follow this convention and empower the children in their care. The world made a promise to children nearly 25 years ago that we would do every in or power to protect and advertize their right to survive and thieve, to learn and grow, to make their voices heard and reach their full potential. The convention defines a child as a person below the age of 18, unless the laws of a particular countries has set the legal age for adulthood younger.Young children often dont realise that they have rights so it is up to adults to make sure that they know that they do, one of the rights relevant is the right for all children to have their views and opinions listened to and their best interest at heart. The EYSF requires all picture providers to have implemented a policy and procedures to promote the equality of opportunity of children in their care, and show support for children with special educational needs and disabilities. This policy should also cover how the individual needs of all the children will be met.All staff should have read and have understanding of their settings equal opportunities polices. All children should be given the same business organization and attention and not all treated the same as this can be discriminating against them. A setting and their staff should provide an inclusive environment as this will challenge discrimination which will help to build a positive environment where children and their families will feel respected and valued, qualification them extremity to return. The equality act 2010 replaced all existing equality legislations and is in place protect individuals from discrimination. If children are discriminated against it can cause them to become withdrawn and could affect their development by causing delays. There are many ways that children could discriminate against, a few of these are due to their gender, social class, physical appearance, race and culture, it will lower their s elf esteem and confidence and they will start to question their beliefs. You must treat everyone the same no matter what their gender culture etcetera This does not just apply to the children but to their families too. Any one working with children has to challenge their own views and beliefs and not show any prejudices to any of the children or their families so they want to return to the setting. To make a setting welcoming to children and their families welcome signs should be in multiple languages, staff should have a smile and a positive greeting when children and their families enter the setting, this creates a cheerful environment, learning a few words in the childrens own language helps build soaked relationships.Support children in their own choices, when it comes to cultural /religious celeb proportionalityn these should be in place whether a child of that morality / culture is in the setting or not, ask for people that are from that culture or religion to come in and help promote to a higher standard so that the children get a fuller picture of the culture / religion or festival.Help children to feel they can come and talk, encourage children to build on their unique character and feel comfortable in themselves, helping them feel positive about their background which in turn will help them gain emotional well-being. By promoting good diversity children will be more accepting of other who are different from themselves.Children trust the adults that look after them to keep them safe and love them as do their parents as they are giving their most precious prize possession to look after and keep safe and happy .part of caring for a unique child is promoting their well-being , making them feel safe and secure in their environment. Key workers are essential as a first point of contact for the unique child and their family. The key worker spends time on a one to one with the child getting to know the needs of the child supporting them as they learn to spend time without their parents, and learning all about their interest, the key worker also helps support the parent in talking to them about the routines and likes and dislikes and aiming to follow them. Setting need to be set out for the childrens age and developmental stage, making sure that the environment is appropriate and safe for the children. Staffs ratios are a legal requirement, in the age group 0-24 months the ratios are one member of staff to every three children, from 24-36 months the ratio is one staff member four children and from 36-60 the children are more independent and have a greater knowledge of their own guard so the ration out is one staff member to eight children, at this age children should be given rules, boundaries and activities that get the children to listen. Road safety Stanger danger awareness to personal safety should also be introduced at this age.As children grow they can be given the chance to learn about keeping safe themselves, encourage the child in making decisions give the child the power to say no if dont want to join in. Promoting independence is an important part of ontogeny and learning and becoming a unique child. And environment should be set out in an appropriate manner for the child. I.e a child of 0-12 months will need the toys in reach so they can chose themselves as they become mobile the environment should be set out so resources are at the childs height and they can get them easily. A choice of healthy snack should be offered, from 12-24 months the environment should be accessible to the child and they should be give tongue to opinions which should be listened too, from 24-36 months children should be choosing what they want to play with, communicating is getting better and children should be having their opinions asked and listened to they should be continuing to help set up and tidy off to promote independence and help with children following rules and boundaries. From 36-60 months children should e njoying independent choices they should be involved in the setting playing and communicating, ask the children what they would like to play with involving them in setting out their environment, at the same time setting boundaries.Setting should following the childrens act 1989 which promotes empowerment for children, making sure that they are involved in decisions that can affect their well being. Making sure that the childrens feelings and opinions are listened to, making sure that individual needs for the children and families are met, that children have their race, culture, language and religion are valued and respected and making sure that the well-being is of paramount importance.By using all of these when working with children you come to learn that all children are unique and by meeting all of their individual needs you are making sure that they are in a happy safe environment where they can grow and learn at their own pace feeling confident at doing so with the all the love support and resources that they need to do so.By meeting the unique Childs individual needs will help the child in five of the Every Child Matters outcomes. In staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making positive contributions and achieving economic well-being.

Management and Organizational Theories: Pros and Cons
precaution and boldnessal Theories Pros and ConsTask 1Evaluate the contributions, strengths and weaknesses of the following three major schools of sentiment in vigilance and organisational theories (E1 PC 1.1)AnswerClassical wariness theoryThe neoclassic management theory is a school of thought which management theorists delved into how to find the best possible way for employees to perform their duties.StrengthsCurrent management and organizational structure stack provide numerous of its roots in the classical management theory. One of the briny advantages of the classical management theory was a methodology for how management should work remember. Management principles can be seen as a basis for the current management behavior today, such as use as a power of authority and responsibility. Coined in this periodIn addition, another(prenominal) advantage of the classical management theory is the focus on the division of labor. By dividing labor tasks would be faster and more efficiently, thereby increasing productivity. element of labor can be seen in many applications today, ranging from fast food restaurants, big production. In addition, the classical management theory also gave rise to an controlling zeal of leadership, allowing employees to take. Direction and command of their managersPRESIDENTCEOMANAGERSUPERVISOREMPLOYEESWEAKNESSESThe main weakness of the classical management theory arose from its tough, rigid structure. One of the main principles of the classical management theory is to increase productivity and efficiency however, achieving these goals often came at the expense of creativity and human relations. Oftentimes, employers and theorists would focus on scientific, almost automatonlike ways of increasing productivity. For example, managers would use assembly line methods and project management theories that foc utilise on efficient division of tasks.Humanistic TheoryThe Humanistic Management Center advocates a paradigm shift away f rom economistic views on market activities in the circumspection of a humanistic attitude. To move from criticism of the status quo towards colossal discourse on alternatives we devour developed a three stepped approach offering guidance and a broadcaster for reflection on managerial decisions as well as decision making routes. We understand humanistic management on the basis of three interrelated dimensions.STRENGTHSIts a holistic theory, so it looks the holy whole person. For example most other theories reduce people to components, in order to treat disorders the humanist theory would state that the answer lies from looking at the entire person.WeaknessesLack of empirical evidence, the self-help therapy involved can teach narcissistic tendencies. The disadvantage of the humanist approach fuck offs all too evident at a humanist funeral. The appropriate management actions and approaches depend on the situation. Managers with a contingency view use a flexible approach, draw on a variety of theories and experiences, and evaluate many options as they solve problems.STRENGTHSLeader IdentificationFiedlers model gives organizations a rapid method to identify a particular collection of the best. Potential leaders the theory includes a least-loved colleague scale, which helps identifies the management of human relations orientation and task orientation of potential leaders. Leaders with a task orientation ar best desirable to groups in which they delimit tasks with a high level of control and supervision. On the other hand, leaders can a relationship orientation to use to desex ualize the job done their interpersonal skills and can deal with complex problems when taking decisions. FlexibilityThis theory has been designed as a contingency model and is not intended to describe. All possible situations Because the model is to provide flexible enough to fit all kinds of groups leaders and group relationships. Only the results of example, the margin as a group has a leader with low human relations skills, Fiedlers model still gives management the ability to make an in gist(p) group with clearly defined roles and increasing the capacity of the leader to rewards or provide information to punish their subordinates. PrescriptiveThis model provides managers create by adapting a number of variables. Instrument for effective groups According to Fiedlers contingency model, there is not just one type of successful leadership style, but each type of leader can inflate in the right group sites. The model provides a number of factors may change management to improve eff iciency. Group For example, according to Fiedlers theory but an neutral task oriented leader can be effective in a group while the group is highly structured and clearly defined roles. Identifies this research will be further expound in the following pages, but can be summarized by the model in Figure 3-2. This figure indicates that LEMA effectiveness measured by such organizational outcomes as quality , timeliness and cost of the risk by the community is the most direct consequence of the soulfulness results and the schedule adopted and implemented changes . Results for the individual members of the LEMA and LEMC include job satisfaction, organizational commitment, individual effort and attendance, and organizational citizenship behavior. The planning figure out includes staffing / equipment, organizational structure, team development environment, situational analysis and strategic choice. In turn, the planning process is determined by the level of community support officers, news media and the public. The planning process is also influenced by risk experience, as measured by direct experience with disasters and vica rious experiences that reveal. Potential impact of future disasters Hazard experience also shows an indirect effect on the planning, through the effects on community support. It is important to recognize that although the model as shown in Figure 3-2 static, that is to say, the arrows starts on the left and finishes on the right side of the figure the actual process is dynamic, because success tends to be a self-amplifying process in which a produce increased levels of indirect experience with disaster demands (through emergency training, drills and exercises) , community support , fracture staff and organization , and more emergency planning resources . High degree of individual and organizational outcomesHazard Exposure / Community VulnerabilityNumerous studies have shown the level of community adjustment hazard is increased by the experience of disaster impact, especially catastrophic consequences. To the vulnerability of the community to hazards easier to remember and more li able(predicate) to encourage. Frequent for action, recent and serious consequences In some cases, this leads to the development of a disaster subculture in which residents routine patterns of disaster behavior (Wenger, 1978) to determine. When disasters are rare, long removed in time, or have had minimal disruptive impacts, vulnerability threat likely to elicit little attention households, organizations, or the community as a whole. However, the exposure of the community can be made by indirect experience gained by reading or hearing about experiences of other communities with disaster. great to environmental hazards These can be obtained through newspaper articles or television accounts or, most powerfully, through first-person accounts especially if they come from peers (Liddell, 1994a) . For example, a local fire knob is most likely to be affected by the accounts of their experiences other fire chiefs, a city manager is most likely to be affected by another city manager, and so on .Hazard exposure can also be affected by salient cues such as the casual sight of the cooling towers of a nuclear power plant, the intricate maze of piping at a petrochemical plant, or the placards on railcars and trucks passing through town. study from hazard and vulnerability analyses can also have an effect on the community, but this pallid statistical information is likely to have less of an effect than the vivid first-person accounts described above (Nesbit Ross, 1980). As will be discussed in the next chapter, Risk Perception and Communication, the psychological impact of hazard/vulnerability analyses can be increased by linking data on hazard exposure to likely personal consequences.Task 2Compare the relevance and application of the pauperism theories to workplace behavior in present-day organizations. Two content schools of thought1.)Physiological needs The most basic level in the hierarchy, the physiological needs, generally corresponds to the unwitting primary ne eds discussed earlier. The needs of hunger, thirst, sleep, and sex are some examples. According to the theory, once these basic needs are satisfied, they no longer trip.2.)Safety needs This second level of needs is roughly equivalent to the security need. Maslow stressed emotional as well as physical safety. The whole organism may become a safety-seeking mechanism. Two process schools of thought1.)Esteem needs The esteem level represents the higher needs of man. The need for power,Performance and the status can be considered as part of this level. Maslow carefully pointed out that the esteem level includes both self-respect and self-esteem of others.. 2) The need for self-actualization Maslow important contribution, he portrays this level as the peak of the lower, mall and higher human needs. People who update themselves become complacent and have already realized their potential. Self-Actualization is closely related to the self-concepts. In fact, self-actualization is the motivat ion of the perception of the human beings of the individual self. Evaluate two managerial approaches to motivation below for their distinctive contributions to management in organizations. (E1-PC 2.2). 1) Pay and performance at workManagers prepare only the grids and paid to the employee. Managers keep a strict eye on the employees how they work and how they perform.2) Quality of Work Life Programs.Managers only environment friendly and have a look at how their employees standard of living. They only tell the job how to improve their work. Skills and communication skills examine the positive or negative implication of management style below in relation to management practice in organizations. (E1-PC 2.3)1.)Autocratic styleBoss takes the decision without consulting with the other employees and managers whether the decision is right or wrong.2.)Participative styleBoss takes the decision with consulting with the other employees and managers whether the decision is right or wrong.Exami ne the job design for Marketing Manager below and answer the following questions. What are the motivational effects in terms of task characteristics and personal and work outcomes of the job design options? As a job manager i will motivate the employees in order to achieve the goal and i will also consult the problems which are face by the employees and how they can overcome it and what are the solutions. What are the implications of the job design options for management? If a job manager, it is my duty to hire and fire staff, because if after boss Im only looking after the company in the absence of the boss. Moreover, I should be the person in whose area he / she is a perfect fit. Evaluate the social influences on individual work effectiveness and motivation and their implications for group functioning and team workIf the employees are faced with a family problem then it will obviously effect the performance of the employees work, and but it is my duty to motivate so that he can pro duce more results in the future worker and I have the solution for tell which is faced by him in the society. Comparison of Democracy Models
Comparison of Democracy ModelsWrite an essay that comp atomic number 18s and contrasts the different versions of democracy discussed in class (and in Hudson)protective, developmental, pluralistic, and participatory? Which best describes American governance today? Which is most preferable? Why?According to William E. Hudson, there argon four study object lessons that emerge from recent conceptions of democracy Protective, developmental, Pluralistic, and Participatory Democracy. The Protective model advocates participatory institutions because they can provide protection for individual liberties and control of property in a society where pot are self- recreateed and acquisitive. This model testament give way to a utilitarian society where there is the greatest good for the greatest number. The Developmental model believes democratic politics is best for allowing all the great unwashed with civic virtue to overcome their selfishness, unlike the Protective model, and promote the w ell-being of all of society. While the citizens are passive in the Protective model, the Developmental model encourage good citizen to actively participation in politics to better themselves and their governing. However, social scientists view the Developmental model as a democratic ideal that is much different from reality. The average citizen are observed to be apathetic and uninformed nearly politics date only the semipolitical elites participate in government. This give rise to the Pluralist model which, like the Protective, sees human nature as inherently selfish and would defer the everyday governance to the elites. Pluralists give the leaders of interest groups the role of representing the average citizens in policymaking. Because both models assume that political leaders, the elites, should make most of the decisions, they are labeled the elitist models of democracy. In response to the Pluralist view, the Participatory model suggests that political apathy is the result of the lack of opportunities for significant participation rather than a natural inclination. good deal are apathetic because social and political institutions encourage apathy in an authoritarian manner. Much like the Developmental model in many respects, it sees throng as open(a) of civic virtue and encourages active participation in political affairs. The two models differ from each other on their view on economic inequality. The Developmental model does not view this as a barrier, whereas the Participatory focus on the importance of economic equality as a requirement for meaningful political democracy.American politics today would be best described as a Pluralistic democracy. It has the lowest ballotingr turnout of any democracy. People are clearly apathetic and focused on their private concerns to care near the day-to-day governance. For the most part, politics is the matter of political elites like interest groups each representing its members by lobbying for laws and re form bill. However, this has led to a society figured by a few elites with the mass of the nations wealth and construct significant leverage in political matters.A more preferable model to strive for is the Participatory model. Much of the apathy in American politics is due to the notion that the people feel powerless. People feel that their contribution and participate in government willing not amount to much. The citizens down no direct say in government with the exclusion of representative of the home plate. Every member of the executive and judicial branch as well as the Senate are not directly pick out by the people. The complicated system of rules of judicial separation of power and checks and balances were purposefully designed by the Framers to slow the governing procedure for the interest of preventing tyranny. Consequently, whether the people participated or not, a policy will still take a tremendous amount of time to go through as the political parties in each governmental branch fight over partisanship rather than the merit of the policy. As explained by prop peerlessnts of the model, there is to a fault a lack of opportunities for participation especially when people are more and more caught up in their career. The Election Day is arbitrarily put on a Tuesday when, with the unlession of a few conjure ups, many people fuck off to go to work. What does the game star power tell us close power? How did the Framers of the Constitution comprise such ideas into the Constitution? The Star Power game demonstrate the notion of absolute power corrupts absolutely. The game starts out with a very social zephyr as the players trade chips with each other. However, when the ability to govern the other groups, and dictate the tackles, is given to the upper-class Square group, the atmosphere changed. Inevitably, the Square members, the elites, begin to create heavy rules that are favorable to them to remain in power and are restricting to the othe r two groups. Although the other group can suggest rules, the Square have no obligation to adopt any of it unless it is favorable to them. This create a different class system for the participants those in power and those who are powerless. It is important to punctuate that if any other participant in the lower- and middle-class groups, the Circle and the Triangle, that would be promoted to Square will succumb to the same temptation of infinite power.Who is Steve Rocco? How did he receive elected to school board? Whatif anythingdoes his election say is broken in our political system, and what can be done to fix it?Steve Rocco is an American who was formerly an elected board member of the Orange Unified School District in Orange in 2004. Strangely enough, despite being elected, nobody seems to know anything about Rocco then. Even the board members and news reporters could not get through to him during his candidacy. He also did not campaign or have a candidate statement, and he was supposedly a teacher according to the candidacy form. However, he managed to win the election against an opponent who actively campaigned. He did not make any habitual appearance during this period and some people speculated that he would not show up to the board meetings. Rocco did, in fact, show up to meetings with inappropriate speeches and inappropriate behaviors which anger other members present. A petition to recall him failed to gather enough signatures and he remained on the board. This event raises several key issues with the political system. First of which is the peoples lack of care and involvement in the political system. The fact that Steve Rocco did not campaign or make any public appearance during the candidacy should have brocaded an alarm. This may be an isolated incident of failure in the system but the root cause is present even in major elections. Most people are already so removed from politics that voter turnout has been on a decline. Those who does cast a b allot in an election often do so based on familiarity of names or other attribute. In the case of presidential election, the large absolute majority vote based on partisanship. That is to say a person who is affiliated to the Democratic Party will most likely vote for a Democratic candidate. go on on the topic of voting, smaller elections, like the one that got Steve Rocco elected, are often placed towards end of the very lengthy ballot. Voters suffer from ballot fatigue and will only complete the first part of a ballot. Those who actually do reach the end will often do it with less care take for granted they even have a slight notion of what they are voting for. As a case in point, many people said they judgment it was more appropriate to vote for Steve Rocco because he claimed to be a teacher as oppose to his opponent who is a park ranger. Most people would straightway blame the people who voted for Rocco as ignorant among other accusation. The common people are apathetic abou t participating in the political system except those who have a very large stake in the matter. Although they are not entirely wrong, there are other factors to consider. One issue raised by this event was the failure of watchdog journalism, or any other watchdog organization for that matter. As aforementioned, no one knew a thing about Steve Rocco when he was elected. This is not limited to the common folk of Orange County but also the journalists and reporters. In this case, no matter how involved one may be in the election, there is simply not enough information available to make an informed decision on the matter.Another issue is how Steve Rocco managed to become a candidate in the first place. Clearly, the requirements for candidacy is not sufficient because it only required the name and occupation of the candidate. What is more worrying is the fact that Steve Rocco falsely claimed he is a teacher and shows that the people organizing the election never bothered to do a backgrou nd check on the candidates. There are no apace and easy fix for the political system. To start, the people and organizations involved like the media should have the duty to seek and provide all the relevant information for the people. How can people be expected to make informed decisions when there are no information to seek? How does the separation of powers, according to Hudson, undermine democracy? Do you appreciate there are too many checks in our system of government? Too few? What types of constitutional reforms does he suggest?According to Hudson, the founders preoccupation with safeguarding acquaintance caused them to create a system that undermined two other key democratic values. To prevent majority tyranny, they created a structure that lacks responsiveness to political majorities. This is done by putting democratic passions through excessive checks and balances of the evidenced branches of government. Second, the separation of powers divided responsibility and made it impossible to hold elected officials accountable for their actions. Accountability is of the essence(p) to representative democracy especially when the representatives make laws that are not in their constituents best interests. This cannot be done when separation of power obscures who is responsible for governmental deportment and inhibit responsiveness to public interests. What are the pros and cons of having major policy decisions made by majority rule? Do you think the decisions such as whether to ca-ca or build an airport at Toro, go to war in Iraq, or define marriage (Proposition 8) should be made by majority rule? What do Greenberg and Page feel about the capacity of average people to govern themselves? Do you agree or disagree?Majority rule is one of the key concepts that people associate with the word democracy in the unite States. The Framers concern and fear of majority tyranny was one of the reason for the system separation of powers. They saw the common people as un informed and lack the knowledge to make the right decision for everyone. The system does not distinguish the domineering majorities from those that are not. It simply creates a series of roadblocks which allows the interests of the minority to prevent change that a democratic majority support. A democratic majority rule can be good in distributing the decision-making power to many people who have a stake in the outcome. Essentially, it gives way to change that are beneficial to the largest number of people based on their democratic vote. As people see that they each have the equal power to change their own life and those of others, they will course become more attentive to politics and spur discussions that will better society.Under an autocratic system, the opinion of the majority does not matter as their compulsory leader makes all the important decisions and seek only obedience. In a democracy that inhibit majority rule, it is no different. Instead of a single irresponsible le ader, it could be a sufficiently large interest groups funded by wealthy individuals and creates an executive minority rule. Interest groups today like the NRA or AARP are extremely influential in making public policy and are among the biggest lobbies in Washington. Under majority rule, everyone can become part of the decision-making process which deter tyrannical rule of the few elites. This is especially true in America as top 20 percent control 80 percent of the wealth, and will delay to stretch their lead by funding political candidates who are willing to represent their interest. For a time leading up to the Iraq War, most people were indecisive to use military force and continued to oppose the war when it began.Nevertheless, majority rule is not safe from abuse as feared by the Founding Fathers and the Framers of the Constitution. afterward all, one of the weakness of majority rule is that it does not require a consensus to make a decision. After the September 11th attack, the public was very ablaze and supported the war in Afghanistan. Minority racial groups became targets of hostility as a result as well. The issue arise as to whether people should be allowed to make important decisions when they are so easily manipulated by emotion. Moreover, a majority rule does not guarantee the protection against influences from elites. The period known as the Red Scare led to mass hysteria of anti-communist sentiment as a result of Senator McCarthys speeches.Although there have been instances of majority tyranny, they are few and far between. Regardless, Greenberg and Page still feels that the average people do not have the capacity to govern themselves. They see that the citizens do not care about politics, are uninformed on most matters, and unstable in their views. As a result, the citizens are not ready for self-governance and should not be allowed to determine what government does. Greenberg and Page also note that, under alternative system from majority rule, the rights of the minorities are also not guaranteed.OpinionWhat aspects of the Constitution inhibit majority rule? Why did the Framers incorporate these constraints into the Constitution? In the Constitution, the Framers designed a framework for a government of separated powers and checks and balances. The government has its executive, legislative, and judicial powers divided into separate branches, each with a unique set of powers and a role in the affairs of the others. This is to prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful. This system has many potential for conflict between the branches of government. It was intentionally designed this way by the Framers to slow the governing process and inhibit majority rule. Many of them also believed that the people should not rule directly but through multiple layers of elected representatives serving as barriers to majority rule which they thought would lead to disobedient outcomes. The citizens of the United States have no di rect say in government with the exception of electing members of Congress. The first and most obvious inhibitor on majority rule is the process to elect a president. Every member of the executive and judicial branch are not directly elected by the people. This include the President of the United States who is elected by the Electoral College, not the people. Even if candidates tie in number of votes or fail to receive the majority from the Electoral College the decision will go to the House of Representative. This was seen in the election of John Quincy Adams and George W. Bush where neither win the popular vote but were elected president by the House and the Electoral College, respectively.Another aspect of the Constitution that inhibit majority rule is the Amendment process which requires a supermajority vote two thirds from both houses of Congress and three fourths of the state legislatures. It cannot be done by a simple popular majority vote nor does it require a popular vote. Th is inhibit majority rule because in the case of the Senate and the state legislature, each state is equally represented. This is particularly disproportionate as only a few states like California and Texas already take form nearly a quarter of the population but only get 5% representation. The supermajority vote is also present in the checks and balances system. Unlike the prior examples, majority rule of the people and the government can be inhibited by the checks and balances system. Assume that public outcry has managed to influence both houses of Congress to pass a new law. The President have the power to veto the bill, which can be overridden by a two thirds vote in each house and write it into law. At this point, the Supreme Court can deem the law unconstitutional and overturn the new law, or the president can issue a signing statements saying he cannot carry out the law.The Framers create a constitution by which the people only rule indirectly and deliberation serves as bar riers to majority opinion. The framework of government established by the Framers was designed to inhibit majority rule. Of the three branches of government, they only made a part of one of them, the House of Representative, defer to election from direct vote of the people. It was not until the 17th Amendment that Senators were subjected to election by direct vote. On the topic of Amendments, suffrage was not granted to blacks, women, Native Americans, or 18-year-old until much later. One reason why it took so long was because the Framers created an amending process that was exceedingly complicated. They designed a system in which political elites are insulated from majority opinion to deliberate on their own.

The Plague Essay -- essays research papers
The PlagueThe rats did it Rats, almost single handedly, killed off about a third of theEuropean universe of discourse throughout the 14th and 15th centuries. Its effectuate on westerncivilization still lasts today, but for the peck who lived during the plagues wish sothat they did not. Society was depressed, the economy was struggling, food was scarce, and solely of Europe was in battle. Who would want to live in these dramatic conditions? No whizz, and not for centuries to come. The Plague, also known as the Black finish, or the Bubonic Plague, which struck in 1346, and again in 1361-62, ravaged all of Europe to the extent of bringing gruesome death to millions people of the Middle Ages. It was a combination of bubonic, septicemia, and pneumonic plague strains that started in the east and worked its way west, but never left its native home. One of the things that do the plague one of the worst was that there were outbreaks almost every ten years but still restricted to Europe . It is thought that one third to one half of the population in Europe could have possibly died due to the plague with some towns of a death rate of up to 30 or 40 percent. Very few that were infected with the plague actually survived more than one month after receiving the disease. The Black Death was an incredible event that cause everyone on a physical level, emotional level, or both. The Black Death was more terrible, and killed more people than any war in history. The plague was so horrible and terrifying that people said it made all other disasters in the Middle Ages seem like a walk in the common land when compared it to the Black Death. The infested rat, called the black ship rat, was carried in the baggage of merchants on board ships traveling all over the Mediterranean. They didnt know it, butIt was the people that actually fete the disease across the land. The plague spread in a undischarged arc across Europe, starting in the east in the Mediterranean Sea, and shutt ing up in Germany. It is incredible that the plague hit Europe several times, but still no one understood neither the causes nor the treatments of the epidemic.Although the Black Death was one of the largest epidemics ever recorded, it did not have many visible symptoms. The actual symptoms varied i... ...e seen along with the cathedrals started in the 12th and 13th centuries and never finished because of the plague. The effects on the future were not as bad as the effects the 14th century people experienced. After the plague had set in on Europe and took its toll the people began to stop writing and in turn stop reading. The citizens became illiterate and showed no real interest in the arts. The European population steadily declined after 1350 for the next century. In 1351, it was calculated that the total number of dead in Europe was approximately twenty-four million people. That is a great decrease considering that there was an estimated seventy-five million people living in Euro pe before the Black Death struck. The Plague certainly had one of the greatest effects on the world in all areas, and was also one of the greatest displays of human suffering ever. The Plague caused the people of western civilization to overlook family, food, society, and basic fundamentals of living. It seems that bad or depressing situations give us a grasp on what is really important in our daily lives, and that is what we all need.

Even at an early age he showed signs of being an intelligent person with insight into the world around him. afterwarfared on, he moved to New Salem, Illinois, where he lived until he was active 28 years old. He worked several odd jobs during his time here and even realise the famous nickname Honest Abe during his stay. For him, slavery and freedom were incompatible for one to live, the other must die. (History Book, 512). He to a fault strongly opposed The Mexican War. After his term was over, he decided to go home and continue with his law practice. In 1850, he decided to sum of money the Republican Party and ran against Stephen A. Douglas for his spot in the Senate. In 1858, at one of his speeches in Illinois, he made a quite informative speech about his and the Republican partys point of view on slavery. We have in this nation the element of domestic slavery. The Republican Party commemorates it wrong - we think it is a moral, a social, and a political wrong. We think it is wrong not confining itself merely to the... ...omb at Oak Ridge cemetery. To this day, people remember him not only as a one of the greatest presidents ever, but also as a great human being. His dedication and courage throughout the war helped make The United States whole again and made sure that something like this would hopefully never happen again. His face is seen every day on a five dollar bill, on a penny and even on Mount Rushmore. He did something not very men have ever done. He brought an entire nation together again and guided it through the most devastating experience tha t this nation has faced.Works CitedBooks - Mason, Lorna C, William Jay Jacobs, and Robert P Ludlum.
